The Kenyan NGO Pamoja Women Development Program (PAWDEP) emopwers women financialally to run viable, competitive and rewarding enterprises that can compete locally and internationally.
In September 2009, the Pension & Development Network was contacted by Julius Chege, CEO of the PAWDEP. In cooperation with Zimele Asset Management Company Limited (a licensed fund manager) the Kenya Commercial Bank and the National Bank of Kenya, PAWDEP has designed a pension scheme which accepts payments beginning from Kshs 250,- (US$ 3,34), making the pension-scheme affordable.
The PAWDEP pension scheme is the first of its kind in Kenya. For the realization of this project, PAWDEP has requested councelling assistance as well as funding assistance from the P&D Network (US$ 100,000 is budgeted for the set-up of the pension-scheme). The P&D Network is currently reviewing the opportunities for cooperation with PAWDEP.
